Health & Safety

The roads and pavements outside our school are extremely busy at the end of the day. As part of our School Travel Plan we encourage as many parents and children to walk to school as possible. We plead with parents delivering their children by car to drive with care and attention at all times.

The school car park can be very busy with parked vehicles, deliveries and visitors. The children are not permitted to access school through this dangerous area. We ask parents to help us to reinforce this rule by not using the car park as a shortcut to classrooms.

As bicycles cannot be securely accommodated at school and in the interest of road safety, children are encouraged not to ride bikes to school. All Year 6 children are given the opportunity to take part in the cycling proficiency course. On these occasions the children may bring their bikes to school.

The school is open to pupils from 8.45 a.m. No arrangements can be made for the supervision of children earlier than this time and parents are asked to ensure that pupils do not arrive at school before 8.45 a.m. Parents are requested not to allow any children to use outdoor equipment, including the trim trail, before or after school.

The school must be informed if any changes are made to collection procedures for any child. We have experienced several situations whereby parents collect a friend’s children without the parent’s knowledge. This causes a lot of anxiety, both for the teachers and the parents concerned. Children are constantly reminded that if their parents or childminders are not in the playground, or at the school gate, they must return to their class teachers. We ask for parents’ support and help by returning children to their class teacher in this situation so that the school staff are able to contact the child’s parents.
