Year 1
In Year 1 children make the transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Reception. Learning through play continues to be an important part of the school day, and children are gradually eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated and eager learners.
In Year 1 the children follow the National Curriculum and we endeavour to make this learning experience as child based and integrated as possible. Children in Year 1 study a variety of topics throughout the year such as Explorers, Our Wonderful World, Plants, and Our Village. Subjects are planned so as to provide a context for learning and children are given plenty of opportunities to explore their topics in a practical and creative way.
