Year 3

This is the year when children enter Key Stage two and lots of exciting new challenges await them when they arrive!

In Key Stage 2 the children are encouraged to be more independent. The children are expected to bring in their home school diaries, reading books and Homework books taking responsibility for them on a daily basis. Reading homework is set weekly along with one other piece (literacy or numeracy). The children also have a weekly spelling list to learn.

Our topics over the course of the year are really engaging and fun. They include the Vikings, Hartwell and Ancient Greece. These are taught through a creative curriculum linking subject areas wherever possible so that the children really become immersed in their topic for the term.

In Class 3 the children begin striving to reach the 144 Club. This is a times tables challenge completed on a weekly basis in class. Once the children have completed an un-jumbled times table’s grid in less than five minutes, their name is placed on the roll of honour list on our website as well as receiving a certificate in celebration assembly.

As they enter Class 3 the children are also given their first credit book; credits can be collected in any subject plus other areas such as helping and caring. Once a child has collected ten credit points in any one area, they receive a merit certificate.

Every child in year three begins Latin lessons on a weekly basis, where the aim is to have fun and explore language through games, songs and stories.
